FINANCIAL AID/SCHOLARSHIPS
Most financial comes in the form of loans. Scholarships based on high academics, athletics, artistic ability, or minority status, are but one slice of the financial aid pie and are available to few students. However, some of the higher priced private schools will offer limited amounts in the form of grants in order to compete more favorably with other schools. Local scholarships remain a student's best opportunity for merit based aid. Scholarship opportunities are posted on the bulletin board in Counseling Center and in the College/Career Center. Additionally, local scholarships may be found on the high school website. (PVPHS) (PVHS) Opportunities are announced periodically in the specially prepared bulletin for seniors distributed by the College/Career Center. These are continually updated and cover a wide variety of scholarships.
Most are not need-based, but require either an essay or emphasize community service or an interest in a particular field. The bulletin board and the particular college of your choice are your best sources. Beware of scholarship services that charge a fee.
