With this 2009-2010 school year, Dapplegray is celebrating it's
tenth year! We are a neighborhood, suburban
school situated in the community of Rolling Hills Estates. It serves not
only as a powerful learning facility, but also as a center for the
surrounding community hosting activities such as scouting, Club soccer,
music instruction, and a wealth of other extra curricular activities that
take place year round.
One of ten public elementary schools on
the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Dapplegray serves a student body of 700. In
addition to 29 regular education classes in grades K-5, our school has a
Learning Center to help support many students.
Our school population is fairly stable,
middle to upper class, with quite a number of former PVPUSD students now in
the role of parents and local community leaders. Community members are
mainly college-educated , professional, or technically trained individuals.
Dapplegray's staff is a dynamic group of
highly supportive of each other and committed to our school goals as
teachers and colleagues. Our classroom teachers are supported by a resource
program specialist, speech/language pathologist, and psychologist.
Additional staff members (media, library, and music specialist) are funded
by private support.
Mission Statement
Dapplegray is committed to providing an
educational program that will prepare students for the next level of
education. Dapplegray believes each child is a gift and therefore is
"gifted" in some way. Staff and administration agree that a strong
literacy curriculum, balanced and enhanced by core curriculum programs
in mathematics, arts, science, history and technology, will best serve our
students in the twenty-first century. An important component of our mission
of our mission is to implement instructional strategies that will satisfy
individual learning needs.
