PVPHS EXPECTED SCHOOLWIDE LEARNING RESULTS
VISION/MISSION STATEMENT
Spearheaded by the Leadership Team with input from all segments of our school community, extensive time and effort produced a document which guides school improvement and staff development. This document is responsive to state standards, current pedagogical thought, and the needs of the school. The revised school vision, developed throughout the 1997/98 school year, is the foundation for the adoption of the goals/ESLRs. PVPHS is an excellent demonstration of what public education should be through a true partnership with the community, collaboration, dedication and hard work.
PVPHS VISION STATEMENT
The high school community of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District envisions its graduates as successful lifelong learners in a rapidly changing global environment. The depth and breadth of the curricular and co-curricular programs will produce students who achieve their highest academic, career, and personal potentials, while developing positive self-images in a safe, secure, tolerant and aesthetic environment.
PVPHS Goals/Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLRs)
The school goals/ESLRs are posted in all classrooms and translated into the prevailing home languages. Teachers write lesson plans incorporating the goals and have students complete reflections on their work using the goals/ESLRs as a learning rubric. The staff and students have ownership of the goals which are reinforced through a daily reading of an "ESLR Thought of the Week ", and related activities organized by the Student Council members.
PVPUSD BOARD OF EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY
The Governing Board believes that all students can succeed regardless of their race, background or ability. School staff shall embody this philosophy in all district programs and activities. The district further believes that 1) the central interest of schools is the learner, 2) learning is an active process, 3) our schools are responsible for each learner, 4) experiencing success is crucial to the learning process, 5) the qualities of teaching and learning are inextricably interwoven, 6) program improvement is a continuing process, 7) providing quality programs is a responsibility of our community and 8) our community provides an essential resource to the educational program.
