CHEATING AND FORGERY POLICIES

CHEATING POLICY

1st Cheating Incident – Student is to be given a referral and informed that a “Fail” will be recorded for the work in question. A citizenship grade of “U” (unsatisfactory) may be given at this time. The parents will be notified by mail of the incident by the Associate Principal. The teacher should send an interim home if an “F” or a “U” on the report card will result from this incident.

2nd Cheating Incident –The same procedures should be followed as the first time. If it is the second offense while in high school, the student will be removed from the class in question and assigned a “Fail/U” as a final grade.  The administration will be responsible for making this determination because the classroom teacher would have no way of knowing whether the offense is the first or second.

Because the consequences for a second incident of cheating any time during a student’s high school career are so serious, teachers are asked to make the cheating policy very well known.  Teachers who foresee plagiarism as a potential problem should clearly explain what would be considered plagiarism.

It is the student’s responsibility to inquire with the teacher regarding any circumstances, which may infringe on these rules.

FORGERY POLICY

1ST offense – Student is placed on attendance office forgery list. Written notes can no longer be accepter to clear absences, only phone calls from parents/guardians. Student given 3 days of alternative discipline (trash p/u, detention, etc.)

2nd Offense – Student verified on attendance forgery list. Parents notified any further forgery incidents will result in suspension.  Student given 5 days of alternative discipline (trash p/I, detention, etc.)

3rd Offense – Student suspended 3 days. Possible placement at another school site. Possible referral to School Site Attendance Review Team, or District Attendance Review Board.

Students should be proactive in discussing with their teachers and parents any and all conditions which may constitute cheating or forgery and use good judgment when preparing assignments, studying, taking examinations, or reporting information while at school.
