Backpacks are provided by the PTSA for each room to be used in the event of a disaster, such as an earthquake or fire. The seal on the backpack should only be broken in the case of an emergency. Items needed for drills are in the small, zippered front section of the backpack.

Front Small Zippered Section (Items needed for drills/practice)

- Whistle
- Single edge razor blade to open sealed section of backpack in a real emergency
- “All Accounted For” sheets
- Red and Green stickers to mark doorjamb of each room
Green sticker – room all clear, no injured persons inside
Red sticker – room not clear
- Orange vest to be used by runner
- Nametags to identify person left behind
- Pen and paper for sending messages to command center for missing persons

Large Sealed Section of Backpack (only open for real emergency – not for drills)

- 2 space blankets – to cover those who are left behind
- Pry bar – use if classroom exit is blocked
- Gloves, 2 pairs (leather/cloth & latex)
- Large trash bag
- Pocket tissue
- First Aid kit
- First Aid manual (Red Cross)
- Hardhat
- Additional red and green stickers
- “All Accounted For” forms (to be used in actual emergency)

Please . . .

Store the emergency backpack in a place that is easily accessible but doesn’t tempt your students or others to remove articles. Notify Mrs. Darling if the seal is broken or any items are missing. Keep personal items in a separate bag nearby.
Thank you for your help and attention to detail.
