STUDENT RELEASE TEAM

The Student Release Team consists of 15% of the staff. More teachers and volunteer parents, and students can assist this team as needed and as available.

Post Location: Southwest entrance to baseball field. A roped area with several tables will be set up to control the crowd and to clear students for release. Area will be highlighted with arrows and flags. Use two security assistants as crowd enlarges.

Equipment Location: Container near M44-45 portables in 2 plastic cartons labeled Student Release.

Equipment includes: alpha sorter, note pads, highlighters, masking tape, binder clips, pens and pencils, Marks a lot, Sharpies, scissors, flags, clipboards, whistles, emergency/disaster plan, semester student directory and schedule of classes, student sign out sheets, tables and chairs, signs (arrows and exit), maps, green pads for student release for runners, band aids, reading glasses, lime green vest for adults.

PROCEDURES:
1. Organize the station . . . schedule book, map of class locations on the baseball field, etc. Set up ropes, signs, and tables. Post signs in English, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese near Student Release area and in any other areas to help parents know where to go in order to sign out their student. Station several adults to guide parents. Use students to translate, perhaps two at each station.

2. Within 15 minutes, you will have panicked parents. Ask for parents to volunteer once they know their child is safe. They can be used to clear other students and assist on any of the teams. Please make sure they wear an orange vest (extras in container). Community people can be assigned to a job or be directed to baseball field.

3. Ten or more runners will be sent from the Runners Pool (middle area of baseball field). Ask for more as needed.

4. STOP - take time to devise the best method under the circumstances regarding ability to respond and the flow of the crowd.

5. Release students as quickly as possible. Send a runner to pick up the student to be released with the paper indicating student name, room number, and teacher name. The runner should bring the student back to the Student Release area. Runners should remind teacher to keep record of the student that was released.

6. Document all releases and have parent OR designated adult SIGN FOR THE STUDENT they are taking away on the Release form at the bottom. Note the time, if possible.

7. Stay in contact with the Command Center. For any unusual problems, contact the Command Center and ask for extra adult help. Call Runners Pool when extra help or materials are needed.

8. If the media comes to this area, send them to the Command Center. (Try not to let them interview parents. Do not answer any questions, such as how many injured or dead?)
