2008-2009
Games are divided into
either three or five sets. Each set is played to 25 points,
using rally scoring. Rally scoring gives a
point for each sideout instead of a point during serve,
which was the rule a couple years ago. The match continues until
one team wins a certain number of sets, two if three sets
are played, three if four sets are played. Six players are allowed
on the court, including the defensive specialist, outside
hitters, middle, setters, and opposites. Key positions include
setter, which sets or bump sets to one of the hitters, who
then smashes, rolls, or tips the ball. Player may not touch the
net during a block or spike. The team must get the
ball over the net in three touches, using a bump, set or
hit, or it results in a sideout (loss of ball) and a point
for the other team.
